News Digest: Pro-Europe opposition reached final agreement on elections

The 26th “Serbia against Violence” protest was held in Belgrade. On Saturday, 28 October, another in a series of protests “Serbia against Violence” was organized. Central theme of this protest was media. Citizens were addressed by politicians from opposition parties, who are technically organizers of the protest. It was announced that a decision will be made in the coming days regarding further protests during the election campaign. EFJ President: New media laws one step further in state control of media.  Maja Sever said that, although some things have been changed, “in the end not everyone is satisfied with the adopted laws and with what is now to define the media space.” “This law has paved the way for legalization, state control of media exists in Serbia anyway, this is just one step further, the legalization of that control and pressure,” she added. Snap parliamentary and local elections in Serbia on 17 December. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has officially called snap parliamentary elections for 17 December. On 11 September, a group of opposition parties, organizers of “Serbia against violence” protests demanded holding snap parliamentary and Belgrade elections by the end of this year. On 27 September, a few days after Banjska attack in Kosovo, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić announced that the government would meet the opposition’s demands and schedule elections. „Serbia against Violence“ will offer cooperation to right wing parties if needed. Radomir Lazović, the first on the list of “Serbia against Violence” in Serbia’s elections, pointe-d out that the first step after the change of government will be the fulfilment of all the demands of the protest.
