Boris Tadić confirms readiness of his party to run with “Serbia Against Violence” coalition

BELGRADE – President of the Social Democratic Party (SDS) and former President of Serbia Boris Tadić confirmed the readiness of SDS to participate on a joint list of the pro-EU opposition, “Serbia Against Violence”.

The formation of the “Serbia Against Violence”, the electoral coalition of the entire parliamentary pro-EU opposition, was announced last week. Whether some extra-parliamentary parties, including SDS, would also join the coalition, however, has remained unclear.

In recent days, it was reported that Tadić was negotiating with Miroslav Aleksić, leader of the recently established People’s Movement of Serbia (NPS) that SDS should join the coalition and receive several places on the electoral lists allocated to NPS during the coalition negotiations.

On Thursday, Boris Tadić wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that SDS is ready to be a part of this lists and calls for all the conflicts and vanities be set aside.

“We also believe that calculations regarding the number of mandates should not be an obstacle to our joint struggle and accept the minimum of 2-3 winnable seats”, Tadić wrote.

In his appearance on N1 television this morning, Miroslav Aleksić confirmed that “Serbia Against Violence” coalition would submit the joint list over the weekend.

In the 2022 parliamentary election, coalition around Tadić won 1.72% of the vote and failed to cross the 3% threshold.

In the city of Belgrade, which is also scheduled to hold early elections in December, Tadić’s list won 2.92% and was just a couple of hundreds of votes shot to clear the threshold and deny the majority to the ruling SNS-SPS coalition.
