Vučić reacts to allegations that he will sign the agreement with Kosovo after elections

BELGRADE – President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić reacted today to the allegations of Nova.rs portal that he would sign the implementation of the Ohrid agreement with Kosovo following elections on 17 December. Vučić denied that he would sign “the independence of Kosovo”, even though formal recognition by Serbia is not the part of this agreement.

Earlier on Thursday, portal Nova.rs published an article in which it claimed, according to its sources, that Vučić accepted the implementation of the Ohrid agreement reached earlier this year, but asked to sign it after 17 December, when the elections are taking place in Serbia.

The implementation of the Ohrid agreement, among other issues, includes the commitment of Serbia not to oppose Kosovo’s membership in any international organisation and to accept its documents and symbols.

In a recorded video published on his Instagram profile, Vučić called the allegation a “blatant lie” and said that he would not sign the independence of Kosovo, even though the Ohrid agreement does not contain the obligation of Serbia to recognise Kosovo de jure.

“They have now made up that I am ready to sign the independence of Kosovo, after the elections are over. I want you, the people of Serbia, to know that this is a blatant lie. They cannot topple Serbia with lies, and this is why I am certain that the hard work and the results will always win”, Vučić said.
